About

Built in 1929 by Max Stool, this building served as home of the Montgomery Ward & Co. Up until 1928, Montgomery Ward operated solely on retail catalogs. But by 1926 Montgomery Ward could no longer rely on catalog sales, and decided to expand by constructing a chain of stores in small towns across the country. One of them stationed here in Del Rio. The icon seen on the roofline of the Montgomery building is called the 'Spirit Progress' symbol, which can be spotted on other Ward buildings. In the 1950s, ward moved out and the building has been occupied by various departments.
