About
Artist: Chris Escobar & Alejandro Barajas The sputtering remains of the Tropical Storm Charley stalled over the Del Rio area on August 22, 1998, dumping 15 inches of water in 12 hours. A buildup of branches and debris upstream finally burst, sending a five-foot wave rushing down the San Felipe Creek. The wall of water destroyed over 120 homes and damaged more than 1,000 buildings. By 4 am, two-thirds of Del Rio was underwater. Six people lost their lives that night, and 40 others were injured. So much was lost that day, and today this mural stands as a reminder.
